Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people experience only mild discomfort. The sensation is often described as a quick, warm “snap” on the skin. Thanks to the Derma Quad Laser’s cooling technology, treatments are much more comfortable than traditional laser methods.
Are there any side effects?
Most people tolerate laser hair removal very well, but you may experience some temporary side effects in the treated area, such as: mild redness, slight swelling around the hair follicles, warmth or a sunburn-like feeling, temporary dryness or sensitivity. These effects usually settle within a few hours to a couple of days. Your practitioner will provide aftercare advice to minimise any discomfort and protect your skin. More significant side effects are rare when treatment is carried out with a medical grade machine by trained medical staff and after a successful patch test.
How long does the treatment take?
Treatment time depends on the area being treated. Your session may also include a quick 15-minute patch test and consultation if it’s your first visit.
Am I suitable for the treatment?
This treatment may not be recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, using photosensitising medications, and strong topical retinoids (e.g. Retin-A) within the last 5–7 days, have photosensitive conditions (e.g. Lupus), history of skin cancer or suspicious lesions in the area, active herpes simplex (cold sores) in the treatment area, uncontrolled diabetes, epilepsy triggered by light, recent chemical peels, laser treatments, or microneedling in the area. During your consultation, your skin and hair will be assessed to ensure optimal results and treatment safety.
When can I see the results of this treatment?
Most people begin to notice a visible reduction in hair growth after their second or third treatment, with hair growing back finer, lighter, and more slowly.
The best results are typically achieved from around the sixth session onwards, as each treatment targets hairs that are in the active growth phase. Because this is a one-year unlimited laser hair removal program, you’ll have enough treatments to maximise your results over the course of the year.
How can I maintain these results?
To maintain your results, it’s important to follow the personalised treatment schedule recommended by your practitioner and attend your sessions consistently throughout the 12-month programme. Avoid waxing or plucking between appointments, as the hair follicle needs to remain intact for the laser to work effectively. You can shave as needed and should shave the treatment area around 24 hours before each session. After completing your programme, occasional maintenance sessions may be recommended to manage any new or returning hair growth and keep your skin smoother for longer.
